Student Transfers and Residency

Divider Line

The in-county student transfer window for the 2013-14 school year is OPEN.  The window will  close on AUGUST 1, 2013.  Stafford County Public Schools will accept transfers for the 2013-14 school year within this timeframe.

NOTE: The following schools are CLOSED to new transfers for the 2013-14 school year because the schools have reached capacity.  Students who are attending these schools on an approved transfer during the 2012-13 school year will be allowed to return for the 2013-14 school year per Policy 2103, Student Transfers.  Transfer requests to the school listed below will be denied.

CLOSED SCHOOLS: Conway, Grafton Village, Margaret Brent, Moncure, and Widewater Elementary Schools, Rodney Thompson and Stafford Middle Schools, and Colonial Forge, Mountain View and Stafford High Schools are CLOSED to transfers for the 2013-14 school year.

When to Apply:

Transfer applications for the 2013-14 school year must be submitted to the requested school between March 1, 2013 and August 1, 2013.

NON-EMPLOYEE STUDENT TRANSFERS
 
Transfers may be approved for students to attend a school outside their attendance area for one of the approved reasons specified in Policy 2103, Student Transfers (last revised October 2010).  Click here to view Policy 2103, Student Transfers.   Note: School preference is not an approved reason for transfer.
 
The parent/guardian must be a resident of Stafford County, and the student must reside with the resident parent/guardian. Student transfer requests are considered based on school, grade level, and classroom capacities and/or program or curriculum availability. Stafford County Public Schools does not provide transportation for students attending schools on an approved transfer.

How to Apply:

Parents/guardian must complete Part I of the Student Transfer Application form.  If the reason you selected for transfer requires supporting documentation, please include it.  The transfer request cannot be processed without the supporting documentation.  Submit the completed transfer form and any required documents to the school you are requesting a transfer to

NOTE:  Conway ES, Grafton Village ES, Margaret Brent ES, Moncure ES, Widewater ES, Rodney Thompson MS, Stafford MS, Colonial Forge HS, Mountian View HS and Stafford HS are CLOSED for the 2013-14 school year.  Transfer requests to these schools will be denied.
 

 RESIDENT EMPLOYEE STUDENT TRANSFERS
 
Children of part-time or full-time SCPS employees who reside in Stafford County may be allowed to attend the school where the parent works, the school nearest to the employee’s work location, or a school outside their attendance area based on one of the reasons specified in Policy 2103, Student Transfers.  Click here to view Policy 2103, Student Transfers.  The policy was last revised by the School Board in October 2010. 
 
NOTE: Stafford County Public Schools does not provide transportation for students attending schools on an approved transfer.

How To Apply:

Full-time or part-time resident employees should complete Part I of the Student Transfer Application: SCPS Employee form and submit via email (through GroupWise) or fax as indicated on the form. If the reason for the request requires additional documentation, submit those documents with the transfer application.  If the reason for the transfer request is child care, the parent/guardian and the child care provider must complete and submit the child care verification form.
NONRESIDENT EMPLOYEE STUDENT ENROLLMENT
 
Policy 2105, Nonresidents, specifies that children of full-time, licensed instructional SCPS employees who do not reside in Stafford County may be allowed to attend the school where the parent works, the school nearest the employee’s work location, or a school outside their attendance area based on one of the reasons specified in Policy 2103, Student Transfers.  Click here to view Policy 2105, Nonresidents.

NOTE: Stafford County Public Schools does not provide transportation for students attending schools on an approved transfer.
  
Admission is based on an annual application.  Employees with nonresident students currently enrolled in SCPS must submit a new application each year. 
 
How To Apply:

Full-time, licensed, instructional nonresident employees should complete Part I of the Nonresident Student Enrollment Application and submit via email (through GroupWise) or fax as indicated on the form. If the reason for the request requires additional documentation, submit those documents with the transfer application.  If the reason for the transfer request is child care, the parent/guardian and the child care provider must complete and submit the child care verification form.

RESCINDING A TRANSFER
 
The parent/guardian may rescind an approved student transfer so the student can return to his/her base (assigned) school. The parent/guardian should complete the Student Transfer Rescission form and submit it to the school the student is currently attending.
